Remarkable home on the waterfront in Port Owen

Some homes are simply so splendid in design that it deserves its own blog post. This spiral-staircase & open-beam 'tower roof' home completed in July of 2017 is located on the waterways of Port Owen, and it definitely deserves a special mention.

The house was a unique and complicated build, which is right up DBC's alley.

The result is a magnificent structure with remarkable flow, a grand spiral staircase at the entrance, sunken lounge, lovely entertainment areas, and intriguing spaces under 'exposed trussed tower roofs'.

Planting Season

Imagine 1,000,000 South Africans uniting on a single day to plant an organic vegetable in their home or office.

23 September 2014 is Planting Season day, and the goal is that 1 million South Africans unite on a single day to plant an organic vegetable in their home or office.

You can join this initiative by visiting the website www.plantingseason.co.za. The Planting Season website also offers a handy free e-book on organic gardening.

Being able to make a small but positive difference in our own backyard is well worth every effort.

Improvements that pay

Kitchens are sound improvementsSome luxurious but costly improvements that are commonly viewed as value-builders are actually losers when it's time to sell.

The real dogs in terms of payback at resale are luxury items that are highly individual to the owner's taste. Things like Jacuzzis and tennis courts are very low on the payback scale. Saunas are a complete waste of money as are Koi ponds and water features.

The most definite way to recoup costs

Kitchen improvements are perhaps the most definite way to recoup your revamping costs, depending on the nature of the changes and assuming that you don't spend too much relative to the value of the home.
